how can I keep from singing?"

Youth Choir

Grades 2-6
Youth Choir sings twice a month on Sundays at the 10:30 AM Mass. They also sing for Christmas Eve, Easter Sunday, and First Communions. Rehearsals are Wednesdays, 6:00-7:30 PM in the St. Gerard's church choir loft. Second and third graders only have to stay for the first hour. The last half hour is dedicated to working with the older children.

Since we are now in a collaborative with St. John's Parish, and the music and rehearsal plans are the same, children have the option of rehearsing Thursdays, 3:30-5:00 PM at St. John's church in the basement Music Room, as needed.

At both parishes they will learn fundamentals of music and song in a fun and creative environment. Our aim, through the use of music, is to help our children increase their understanding of their Catholic Christian faith, and as a result, deepen their spiritual lives.

Junior Choir

Grades 7 -12
Junior Choir sings twice a month on Sundays at the 6:00 PM Mass. They also sing for Christmas Eve, Easter Sunday, and Confirmation. Rehearsals are Wednesdays, 7:30-8:45 PM in the St. Gerard's church choir loft.

Since we are now in a collaborative with St. John's Parish, and the music and rehearsal plans are the same, teens also have the option of rehearsing Sundays, 12:30-2:00 PM at St. John's church in the basement Music Room, as needed.

Singing at Mass is a terrific way to gain self-confidence and enhance your own experience of Mass at the same time that you are enriching it for others. Come join us! It's fun!

Adult Choir

Our Canton Catholic Adult Choir is made up of adults from both St. Gerard's and St. John's parishes. We rehearses Thursdays, 7:15-8:45 PM in the basement Music Room of St. John's church. Childcare can be provided in the next room if needed. We alternate between singing at the Saturday 4:00 PM and Sunday 9:30 AM Masses at St. John's and the 10:30 AM Masses at St. Gerard's, as well as leading the sung worship on Christmas Eve, Easter Sunday, and other important liturgical celebrations. Come and sing with us... This is a very friendly group!

Cantors

Our cantors lead the sung prayer of the church at all the Masses. We train cantors of almost any age, beginning with children in the Youth Choir through Adult Choir. Cantors must have a strong enough voice and presence to lead a congregation. Adult Cantors should be able to read music and be fairly adept at learning music on their own. Younger cantors must show a high level of focus and responsibility, and are trained during their respective choir rehearsals. Adult Cantors can sing at the Mass or Masses of their choosing. If interested, please contact Maria White for an interview/audition.

Instrumentalists

High School Teens and Adults
All instruments are welcome! We would like to encourage anyone who plays a string or wind instrument to volunteer to play weekly at a Mass of their choosing. Good intonation is a must, and they should show a high level of ability. (Advanced middle school students are also welcome.)

We especially need brass for Christmas, Palm Sunday, Easter, and special liturgies such as First Communions and Confirmations. However, they are also welcome at other Masses. High school students can get service hours as well!
